EUPTA's rate sheet, revised May 8, 2026, prices the Neebish crossing as a round trip: $20.00 for a car, pickup or UTV with all its passengers, $10.00 for a senior or disabled driver's car, and $2.00 per walk-on passenger ($1.00 for a senior or disabled passenger). Seniors are age 65 and over and must show ID; disabled riders must tell the deckhand before paying. Larger vehicles, trailers, motorcycles and hazardous loads have their own prices, listed below, and a 20-trip commuter punch card is $105.00 for a car and is good for six months. EUPTA sells mobile tickets in its myEUPTA app (Apple Pay, Google Pay and major cards) and mails paper tickets bought online. The rate sheet does not say whether cards or cash are taken at the Neebish dock itself. All fares in US dollars (USD).
The Neebish Island Ferry links Barbeau, on the mainland in Chippewa County, with Neebish Island in the St. Marys River. It is run by the Eastern Upper Peninsula Transportation Authority, which also operates the Drummond Island and Sugar Island ferries. EUPTA's website describes the Neebish route as leaving from Barbeau for Neebish Island seven days a week.
The present timetable took effect on May 18, 2026. It lists one sailing at the half hour from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., except that there is no 12:30 p.m. run and no 8:30 p.m. run, giving sixteen sailings a day on every day of the week. The sheet does not say which landing the times belong to, and EUPTA publishes no separate list for the island side. That matters if you plan a late return, so the dock line, 906-632-9404, is worth a call before you cross.
Fares are quoted as round trips. A car, pickup or UTV costs $20.00 with every passenger included; a senior or disabled driver's car is $10.00; a walk-on pays $2.00, or $1.00 as a senior or disabled passenger. Trailers, trucks, motor homes and loads such as houses have their own prices, and a 20-trip commuter punch card for a car is $105.00, valid for six months from purchase. Tickets can be bought in the myEUPTA app or ordered online as paper tickets that are mailed out.
Winter is the open question. EUPTA says the schedule is seasonal in early spring, late autumn and winter, but the only timetable posted now is the May 18 one, and the authority has published no ice closure date. Its delays and cancellations page shows the Neebish ferry as running as scheduled, and sends people to the Neebish Island Ferry Facebook page for up-to-date information. If the ferry is not running and you have an emergency, EUPTA says to call 911.
A special run between scheduled sailings can be arranged by phone for $150 one way plus the regular fare, but after hours only in an emergency. Loading is at your own risk, and EUPTA says it is not responsible for damage to exhausts, hitches or low-riding vehicles.
Arrive at the terminal several minutes before departure; vehicle lanes close earlier than the foot-passenger gate.
Check the operator's service alerts before you set out — weather, tides and vessel maintenance change sailings.
Confirm accepted payment methods: some crossings are card-only and some take cash only.
