AMHS publishes no fare table for this leg. Its fares page sends travelers to the Sailing Search tool on the booking site, which quotes a price for the date, passengers and vehicle length entered, and no fare figure is shown here because that tool was not run for this page. Reservations are made on the booking site or by phone at 800-642-0066 (the AMHS home page lists weekdays, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.), and online reservations close 4 hours before departure from a staffed terminal such as Juneau or Haines. Within 4 hours, AMHS says to contact the departing terminal directly. AMHS policy gives free carriage to service animals and sets a 100-pound hand-baggage allowance for walk-on passengers. Changing or cancelling a booking carries a percentage fee that grows as the sailing date nears.
The Juneau to Haines ferry is the Alaska Marine Highway System's Lynn Canal link. The state-run ferry leaves from the Auke Bay terminal on the Glacier Highway, which AMHS puts 13 miles from downtown Juneau, and ends at the Lutak Road terminal four miles from Haines. AMHS describes Haines as 90 nautical miles north of Juneau, and its calendar shows the trip lasting 4 hours 30 minutes on the Columbia and Kennicott and 4 hours 45 minutes on the LeConte and Hubbard.
There is no daily timetable to memorize. AMHS's winter 2026/27 schedule runs from October 1, 2026 to April 30, 2027, and in the calendar read on October 15 a direct Juneau-Haines sailing appears on 118 of the 198 days up to April 30. The first sailing after October 15 is Friday, October 16. The LeConte handles most winter runs on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays until the first days of January, when the Hubbard takes over; the Columbia and Kennicott add Monday or Tuesday trips whose hours move around and sometimes fall overnight. On a typical LeConte or Hubbard day the boat leaves Juneau at 7:00 a.m. and returns from Haines at 4:00 p.m. (4:45 p.m. in April). The tab above switches to the day's own times automatically.
One thing needs checking before any trip. AMHS closed its Skagway terminal to ferry operations on August 15, 2026 and had not given a reopening date in its August 19 release. Boats that serve Haines also call at Skagway, yet the October 15 calendar still shows those calls.
To book, use the AMHS booking site or call 800-642-0066 on weekdays. Online reservations close 4 hours before departure; inside that window call the Juneau terminal at 907-465-8853 or the Haines terminal at 907-766-2111. Vehicles check in 2 hours ahead at both ends. AMHS publishes no fare table for the leg, so the price appears only in its Sailing Search tool.
Arrive at the terminal several minutes before departure; vehicle lanes close earlier than the foot-passenger gate.
Check the operator's service alerts before you set out — weather, tides and vessel maintenance change sailings.
Confirm accepted payment methods: some crossings are card-only and some take cash only.
